Air plants with unique porcelain shells
Dancing Airplants is a project that brings attention to the beauty of nature and the respect we need to have for it. We want to reflect on the importance of taking care of nature.
I’m based in Barcelona, Spain but I’m a native of Mexico. Born in a family that has always been in love with plants, I’ve been a plant lover since I was a child, and when I discovered air plants I immediately fell in love with them! I started collecting air plants and wanted to create an aesthetic way of displaying them, so I started working with porcelain during my free time as a hobby.
Enjoying the creation of different shapes I started creating beautiful porcelain shells for my own flat. In this I was inspired by sea shells, specifically by sea urchins, as I believe the sea is a great source of nature.
Since friends were so enthusiastic about them I decided to create the Dancing Airplants project. I enjoy crafting every shell with different shapes, sizes, and colours. All porcelain creations are made by hand and each is as unique as every creature in life: imperfect and beautiful.
Since then, I have participated in several plant and design markets with great feedback from everyone.
I want to create a bit more consciousness around the importance of caring about nature and the ocean.
Have you noticed that every time you go to the beach there is human garbage, most of which is plastic?
Well, animals and plants bear the consequences of all of that pollution. Climate change is now very evident and, for example, we see more and more jellyfish as the oceans warm. Poor jellyfish! They are not to blame but just a piece of evidence of this climate problem created by us humans.
Oceana & marine life
Because of the climate crisis and the need to raise awareness of it, Dancing Airplants supports the oceans and donates 1€ to Oceana.org for each Dancing Airplant sold.
Oceana is an NGO focused on the conservation of marine life. Founded in 2001, it is the largest international advocacy organization focused solely on ocean conservation. I choose to donate to Oceana as they conduct specific, science-based policy campaigns with fixed deadlines and articulated goals.
